Brazil
In 1959, Vila Amauri had 6,200 residents and stood near Vila Planalto, on the banks of the Ribeirão Bananal. Of its homes, 82% were shacks built from construction leftovers, and 95% had no electricity. The residents were moved to Gama, Taguatinga and Sobradinho, and Sobradinho was created precisely to house the village's population.
Underwater, divers find ruins of houses, concrete floors, sewage pipes from that period and a cistern. There are also submerged brick walls, a corral and even a toilet where a bathroom probably stood. In 2010, geophysicists mapped the cove with side-scan sonar and found straight features, interpreted as lot boundary walls or walls, as well as a probable road crossing of the old village. The site also gathers plenty of the lake's aquatic life.
