The tug Vega was built by the EBEIN shipyard in Niterói for Petrobras, for manoeuvring, rescue and firefighting for oil tankers at the São Sebastião (SP) marine terminal, and was launched in 1973. It belonged to Transmar, which provided services to Petrobras, and had been abandoned for several years in the Baía de Todos os Santos, already partly stripped of equipment; in 2019, it had been out of service for ten years. On 21 November 2020, it was deliberately sunk, right after the ferry Agenor Gordilho, in an initiative of the Bahia Tourism Secretariat to boost nautical tourism in the Baía de Todos-os-Santos. Before the sinking, oils, fuels, lead and hazardous parts were removed, and openings were cut to improve safety inside.
The wreck has a large number of scorpionfish, known locally as peixe-pedra or mangangá, and large ones, so divers should avoid leaning on the surfaces. In 2025, the lionfish, an invasive species, was also recorded on the wreck.
