Brazil
Praia do Flamengo is considered the best spot on Rio's underwater trails to see green turtles, which come close to the sand. On Rio's underwater trails, the clear-water season usually runs from February to April, and February and March tend to be the best months, with calm seas and mild water.
In 2020, a video of turtles feeding on the rocky shore of Parque do Flamengo went viral, and the crystal-clear water at the time was attributed to a strong swell combined with the full-moon high tide. Locals nicknamed the beach "Caribrejo", a blend of Caribe (Caribbean) and brejo (swamp). Aterro do Flamengo, next to the beach, opened in 1965, reclaiming part of Guanabara Bay to connect Santos Dumont airport with Copacabana.
