At Saco dos Ventos, in Enseada das Palmas, lie the remains of the wreck of a small schooner. Around these remains, the fish known in Brazil as robalos are frequently seen.
In 1977 the Ilha Anchieta State Park was created, protecting the island and the ruins of the old prison. The waters around Ilha Anchieta hold schools of sardines, flying fish and the fish known locally as tainhas, robalos and carapaus, as well as toninhas, which are dolphins, and sea turtles.
In the Ubatuba and Ilha Anchieta region, diving tends to be best from January to April. In early summer, thermoclines, bands of very cold water in the water column, sometimes appear at the Ilha Anchieta dive sites.
