Brazil
The Seixas Reefs lie in front of the Seixas cusp, the easternmost point of the Americas. The reef combines rocks covered with algae and corals and small caves, with plenty of fish, octopuses and lobsters.
Among the corals, the most common genus is Siderastrea; corals of the family Mussidae appear only in the wave-beaten area, and hydrocorals occur mostly on the floor of the pools. The management plan for the reef took into account the zoanthid Protopalythoa variabilis, the fish fauna and the presence of dolphins.
After the 2021 coral bleaching, an ecological coral restoration project began at Seixas, with coral nurseries and the participation of the local community, using the natural pools as its experimental field.
