Pedra de Tatuaçu, about 20 minutes away by boat, is one of the main diving spots in the Caraíva region. On the boat trip between Caraíva and Praia do Espelho, there may be a stop at the reef. Tatuaçu lies in the open sea.
In the reef's pools you mostly see fish and crustaceans, which use the limestone walls as shelter, both for protection and for hunting. Because the coral surface is sharp, rubber-soled shoes or water shoes are recommended for walking among the rocks. In 2016, the reef area was set aside exclusively for ecotourism, the preservation of reef species, traditional octopus and lobster fishing, and authorized scientific research.
