Brazil
In the area of Recife Califórnia, on the Abrolhos Bank, 8,332 submerged pinnacles of varied sizes and areas have been mapped. They range from small structures 2 metres high to large reefs that reach 20 metres in height. The largest ones lie on the side near the Parcel dos Abrolhos, where they cover up to 20% of the seabed, the highest concentration of pinnacles in Recife Califórnia. The reef banks are oriented from northeast to southwest, following the prevailing direction of the winds and currents of the Abrolhos Bank.
Small reef heads with a great diversity of benthic species rise from the top of the banks. Research dives on the low-relief banks showed little cover of reef-building corals on the top of these reefs.
In the Abrolhos region, diving is usually best from December to February.
