Brazil
Praia Vermelha do Sul is also known as Praia dos Arquitetos, because the houses around it were built following environmental laws and recommendations, with native vegetation all around. The strip of sand is about 400 m long, with high-end holiday homes set in the Atlantic Forest, their facades standing out on the wooded rocky shores. Like other beaches in the Enseada da Fortaleza, it has no shops along the shore and is preserved and rustic. At the far right end there is a small freshwater stream, which is why borrachudos (biting blackflies) are a nuisance there.
The left rocky shore is popular with anglers, and from it you can see a stretch of Praia Dura and Barra, Palmira, Praia Domingas Dias, Praia do Lázaro and Ilha Anchieta. Following that rocky shore past the Saquinho leads to Praia Brava do Sul, a route recommended only for those with practice. On the right side there is occasional boat traffic, which calls for attention from anyone in the water.
The sea tends to be calm all year round. In the Ubatuba region, summer is usually named as the best time to dive, with warmer water.
