Brazil
Praia da Sacristia, in Ponta Negra, has great marine diversity, with crabs, shellfish, fish and sea urchins. In the cove you can see small fish. Gneiss, ortho-amphibolite and pegmatite crop out on the beach, and a diabase dike cuts across Ponta Negra and runs into the sea toward the Jaconé beachrocks, also called Darwin's beachrocks. The beach and the cave lie on the eastern side of Ponta Negra, on rocks regarded as “African”: the Cabo Frio Tectonic Domain is interpreted as a piece of Africa that remained attached to South America after the continents split apart. In the region, in November 2020, a beach monitoring survey found loggerhead turtle hatchlings leaving the nest in Ponta Negra.
