Praia da Almada is part of the Comunidade da Almada, a typical fishing village made up of the beaches of Almada, Engenho, Lança Cavala and Brava da Almada. In the village, the weather decides when the fishermen go out to sea, and when the catch is plentiful it is usually shared among the residents. Every year, in July, the Associação dos Moradores da Almada holds the Festival do Camarão (shrimp festival) on the beach.
Along the rocky shore at the far right end it is possible to go further, but for those without practice the recommended spot is the left corner of Engenho, the neighboring beach. The beach faces the sunset, which keeps it lit for longer in the late afternoon.
Because it lies in a sheltered cove, the water tends to be calm all year, and the sea is rarely rough at Almada and Engenho. In the Ubatuba region, summer is usually named as the best time to dive, with warmer water.
