With the opening of the Jaguara Reservoir, old Rifaina, submerged since the 1960s, became a diving attraction. On the bottom of the reservoir lie old houses, brickworks, railway structures and bridges that went underwater after the damming of the Rio Grande, and divers look there for remains of the old town. Besides these historical remains, objects such as religious images were later placed on the bottom of the reservoir and are used as reference points during dives. The reservoir holds fish such as traíra, tilápia and lambari, as well as crustaceans and molluscs.
