Opened on 26 June 1935, the Ponte Novo Oriente linked the urban core of Fazenda Tietê, which gave rise to Pereira Barreto, to the Lussanvira railway station. Construction was authorized in 1932, but the Constitutionalist Revolution delayed the work, whose design is attributed to the Japanese engineer Kazuo Nakashima, at a cost of about 1,200 contos de réis. At 160 m long and 25 m high, the bridge was completely submerged on 30 October 1990, when the lake of the Três Irmãos power plant was formed. Afterwards, another bridge, made of concrete and about 2,160 m long, was built over the Tietê at a different spot and given the same name.
