Brazil
At the tip of Pontal de Maracaípe, natural pools form that only appear at low tide. The tide considered ideal for them is between 0.0 and 0.6 m. The pools hold fish of many kinds, as well as sea urchins and corals, so water shoes are worth wearing.
74 fish species have been recorded on the reef complex, more than in similar surveys at Maracajaú, in Rio Grande do Norte, at Maragogi, in Alagoas, and in the pools of Porto de Galinhas.
In the area, besides the trip to the pools, there is a raft (jangada) trip through the Maracaípe River estuary to see seahorses, which tends to be better at high tide. On the Ipojuca coast, October to March tends to be the best time to dive, and from April to September the water tends to turn murky.
