The Concar, a 67 m diesel-powered cargo ship, was built in 1957 by the Astilleros T. Ruiz de Velasco shipyard. It was carrying 800 tonnes of iron oxide and 19,788 cans of olive oil, olives and garlic. After the accident, the crew quickly abandoned the ship, which stayed on the surface for some time before it began to sink slowly. On 19 November 1959, a storm broke the ship into three, sinking the stern and the midship section, while the bow was caught on the rocks before it also sank. A model, a compass, a plaque and other pieces of the Concar are on display at the Museu Náutico de Ilhabela.
