When the tide comes in, the meeting of the waters at the Pontal forms a small waterfall that works as a natural jacuzzi.
The Pontal lighthouse was built in 1948 to warn sailors of the danger of the reefs in front of it. It is 20 metres tall and has a range of 14 miles.
The name Coruripe comes from the Coruripe River; the expression is of Indigenous origin ("cururu-ipe") and means river of gravel. In Coruripe, the best time tends to run from September to March, when there is little rain, while April to August is rainier.
