Coqueirinho beach lies within the Tambaba Environmental Protection Area, where there are conflicts over land use and occupation. On 13 November 2012, the Paraíba Environmental Protection Council (COPAM) set rules for the uses of a stretch of the beach, banned street vendors from the regeneration strip and proposed the restoration of the cliff and of the Coqueirinho stream. On Dictyota brown algae from Coqueirinho beach, researchers found small gastropod molluscs such as Mitrella dichroa, Caecum brasilicum and Eulithidium affine.
