It was in Piscina dos Abrolhos that, in January 2012, the first record of the green alga Halimeda (Halimeda opuntia) in Atol das Rocas was found. The absence of this genus from the atoll had been noted for more than 40 years.
In 2011 several ascidians were collected in the pool: Didemnum digestum, Didemnum granulatum, Didemnum halimedae, Trididemnum maragogi and Eusynstyela tincta. Paratypes of two new ascidians described in 2015, Trididemnum rocasensis and Ascidia viridina, also came from there. In 2007 censuses, the pool held on average 159.92 adults of Thalassoma noronhanum and 156.77 of Acanthurus chirurgus per 100 m².
