In June 2015, at the request of IMA, the State Council for Environmental Protection made Piscina do Amor an exclusion zone, to protect the biodiversity of the cove and allow organisms that reproduce there to repopulate other natural pools in the region. After the closure, biologists from IMA-AL and professors from UFAL dived at the site and found larger fish, in number and size, than in the other spots of the cove. The marine life of the site includes rays, moray eels and turtles, as well as schools of fish.
