In September 2023, the Cockscomb Tide Pool was one of six sites visited in the first investigation of submarine caves and tunnels on Trindade Island. It lies at the northern tip of the island, is elongate and measures about 15 m long by 2 to 3 m wide. Researchers noted a mixing layer of waters of different densities there, a sign of a possible underground source of fresh water reaching the pool.
Sponges are abundant, especially Chondrilla caribensis, Ectyoplasia ferox, Chondrosia collectrix, Mycale and Plakinastrella microspiculifera. The walls hold crustose coralline algae, in thinly encrusting and fruticose forms, and the corals Siderastrea stellata and Favia gravida. The pool has small cavities, about 1 m long and with small dimly lit portions, where Diadema antillarum sea urchins hide; a fish was photographed in one of them. Across Trindade Island as a whole, diving depends heavily on favorable weather and sea conditions.
