Pedra do Félix is a flat rock formation where lobsters, turtles and raias-prego are usually found. Together with Pedra do Velho, it is the reef with the lowest rugosity and habitat complexity among those studied on the Pirangi shelf.
It is part of an alignment of reefs, with Barreirinhas, Mestre Vicente, Meros and Cabeço do Leandro, associated with ancient shorelines. In 2013, it was the only one among the reefs studied with no healthy coral colonies, with 54% of the colonies bleached and 46% dead, and it was also the reef with the most filamentous algae.
In the region, this sector of the shelf is important for the migration, feeding and nesting of sea turtles. On the Pirangi shelf, lobster is the most exploited seabed resource, caught with traps called marambaias.
