Brazil
Paredão dos Peixes holds a wide variety of species, such as rays and the fish known locally as tucunarés and pintados. At the dive sites of Presidente Epitácio you can also see tilapia and other fish known in the region as cascudo, cascudo-abacaxi, piau, curvina, piapara, pacu and armal.
The riverfront of Presidente Epitácio stretches for seven kilometres along the banks of the Paraná River. Along this riverfront, diving is a way to explore local history, passing places such as the old Bar do Chicão, the port quay, the Mecca shipyard and a steam crane. The old Bar do Chicão site, once frequented by fishermen, lies next to the Paredão and still holds objects such as table boards and pans, as well as wreckage from the swimming pool of the former Camping Belvedere.
The port of Presidente Epitácio was built in 1960 to connect the Paraná River to the old railway terminal of the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro. Its activities stopped in 1999, when the Porto Primavera Hydroelectric Plant began operating and flooded much of the area near the old port. With the construction of a hydroelectric plant, part of the town of Presidente Epitácio, on the border with Mato Grosso do Sul, ended up underwater.
