Brazil
Ponta and Parcel das Tartarugas lie at the eastern tip of Trindade Island, and the Parcel offers unforgettable dives. In 2019, while mapping geological hazards, geologist Fernanda Avelar Santos, a PhD student at UFPR, discovered plastic rocks there, formed mainly from fishing nets brought in by currents and burned. In the region, green turtle females tend to nest on Trindade's beaches during the breeding season, from October to May, and Trindade is the species' largest breeding site in the South Atlantic. In the region, cold fronts tend to arrive between April and October and can change the sea quickly and drastically, with strong winds and waves that can reach 5 m.
