Brazil
Navemar XII was a 29 m Brazilian barge, powered by two diesel engines, whose ship operator (armador) was Navemar Rebocadores. It sank on 12 November 2016, and the reason given for the sinking is a probable collision with reefs. There were no casualties: all six crew members were rescued alive.
The barge was carrying supplies for Fernando de Noronha, material of the island's Administration and a Federal Police car. The cargo route between Recife and Fernando de Noronha, which supplies the archipelago with building materials and consumer goods, runs across open sea for 294 nautical miles (540 km) and can take more than 24 hours.
