Brazil
The Uruguay was a German passenger and cargo liner, with an iron hull and 87 m in length, built by Armstrong, Mitchell & Co. at Low Walker, on the River Tyne, for the Hamburg-Süd company. She was launched on 17/11/1883 and completed in January 1884, with a 900 HP engine and a speed of 10 knots. She had accommodation for 30 first-class passengers and 260 in the other classes.
On 20/09/1895, the ship was on the Montevideo–Hamburg route with general cargo, 18,000 sacks of coffee and passengers when she ran aground on the rocky shore of Arraial do Cabo because of dense fog. The hull is broken up, but the boilers, the engine and the bow of the ship, with its hawsepipe, can still be found.
