The Piraúna was a small motor cargo ship sailing from São Francisco do Sul (SC) to Rio de Janeiro. On 15 April 1951, in bad weather, she struck and ran aground on Ponta da Enseada do Sono, broke free, drifted and sank. Seven crew members survived and two went missing. The wreck was located on 14 October 2006, after searches in 2002 and 2005. Today the hull remains intact for about 11 m from the stern, with the rudder and the two-bladed propeller in place, and a second section of wreckage lies about 10 m away.
