Brazil
Morro Alto is the most sheltered site in the Vitória archipelago when a strong southwest wind is blowing. Squirrelfish, parrotfish and angelfish are a constant presence.
Ilha da Vitória is home to a traditional caiçara community that lives from artisanal fishing. Between Ilha dos Pescadores and Ilha Grande, a narrow passage forms a "V", for Vitória. Dives around Ilha da Vitória reveal turtles, rays and a wide variety of fish. On the boat ride to the archipelago it is common to spot bottlenose dolphins, Bryde's whales and even humpback whales.
In the region, the water usually stays around 22 °C and can reach 27 °C from mid-January until the arrival of autumn. In early summer thermoclines may occur, layers of very cold water within a certain band of the water column.
