Brazil
Unlike Buraco do Galego, which is circular, Lasca da Velha is a crack that cuts vertically into the rock and forms a long, narrow pool of translucent water surrounded by rock walls. This natural pool forms between the rocks when the tide goes out.
It lies along the swimming crossing that leaves Praia do Porto towards Praia do Cachorro, passing Biboca, Buraco do Galego and Lasca da Velha. It is also part of the outrigger canoe tour route, together with Rugido do Leão and Morro de Fora. Lasca da Velha was closed for about eight months, together with Buraco do Galego, after growing demand led to crowding and conflicts over the use of the space for photos.
In the region, the Mar de Dentro, where Praia do Cachorro lies, tends to be rough with lots of waves from November to March. Between April and September, especially in August and September, the Mar de Dentro tends to have calm, crystal-clear water for swimming and snorkeling.
