Boldró was the site of the Forte de São Pedro do Boldró, one of the ten fortifications in the archipelago's defensive system. The Fortinho do Boldró is part of the fortifications built by the Portuguese in the 18th century to protect Fernando de Noronha from foreign invasions. Between 1957 and 1965, the Americans set up at the Guided Missile Observation Post, near Boldró. In September and October, Boldró and the other beaches of the mar de dentro tend to be in excellent condition for swimming, snorkeling and diving.
