Brazil
Laje da Conceição got its name from belonging to the former Vila de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the old name of Itanhaém. It was formed by a tectonic process linked to faulting with subsidence near the São Paulo coast. Its surface has only herbaceous vegetation, and the rock is an important breeding site for marine and island birds.
The islet belongs to the Brazilian Navy and holds an automatic navigation lighthouse, visible on clear nights. The lighthouse is a 6 m square concrete tower, painted red, with a focal plane at 34 m, emitting two white flashes every 12 seconds.
The waters around Laje da Conceição are among the island environments of the APA Marinha Litoral Centro with frequent cetacean records.
