Brazil
Together with Ilha dos Búzios, the islet of Sumítica forms the Búzios archipelago, which belongs to the municipality and to Ilhabela State Park. Sumítica has no beaches, and around it there are inlets called sacos. Its rocky shore, made up of large boulders and crevices, gathers abundant marine life.
Neighbouring Ilha dos Búzios is home to a traditional caiçara community that lives from artisanal fishing and from growing cassava and bananas. On the boat ride to Sumítica it is common to spot groups of bottlenose dolphins, Bryde's whales and even humpback whales.
In the region, the water averages around 22 °C and can reach 27 °C from mid-January until the arrival of autumn. In early summer, thermoclines can occur in the region, bands of very cold water in the water column.
