Brazil
The name Montão de Trigo comes from the island's mound-shaped topography. It is said that the first inhabitants were pirates who sheltered on the island. Summer is usually the best season, with warmer water, but good dives are possible all year round.
At Costão do Sudoeste, caves, halls and crevices among large rocks shelter porkfish, surgeonfish, parrotfish, snappers, groupers, lobsters and small crustaceans. At Portinho, on the north side, the bottom of sand and large rocks hosts flounders, sergeant majors, damselfish and sea turtles. At Ponta Negra, on the east side, the bottom of rocks and slabs has porkfish, sergeant majors, xereletes, parrotfish and squirrelfish.
