Brazil
The name of Ilha dos Lobos comes from the fur seals that used to frequent it; another version attributes the name to goats and sheep that, seen from afar, were mistaken for wolves. The island belongs to the Brazilian federal government, is looked after by the Navy and is 50 m high, with almost no vegetation and no beach for landing. It has a 6 m lighthouse with a white flash visible for 11 miles. It can be seen with the naked eye from Praia do Mar Grosso. Amateur and professional fishers frequent the island in search of snook and grouper.
