In January 1990, Ilha dos Ganchos was included among the 29 islands, slabs and rocks that formed the Tamoios Ecological Station, created by Decree 98.864. Underwater life around the island is abundant, with a constant presence of crevice-dwelling fish and passing fish. Starfish, sea cucumbers, colorful sea urchins and even octopus live there.
