Brazil
Ilha do Xavier is long from north to south and narrow from east to west, so it blocks the east wind, which stirs up the water when it blows hard. Octopuses, guitarfish and moray eels are commonly seen on dives, along with a wide variety of fish, schools and turtles. There is also a cave full of marine life, and at the southern tip of the island a large underwater chamber shelters many fish. On this coast, a swell from the south tends to bring slightly warmer water.
