Brazil
The largest of the three islands of Caraguatatuba, Ilha do Tamanduá lies next to the maritime boundary with Ubatuba. Covered by natural vegetation, the island has five beaches: do Fogaça, da Fazenda, do Meio, da Laje and do Sururueiro. On the north side, sheltered from the open sea, boats spend the day near a restaurant. To the east there is a deserted beach with few waves, while the south side, with no beaches, faces the open sea.
Divers and fishers seek out the island for the variety of marine fauna and flora gathered on its rocky shoals and submerged rocks. These rocky shoals and submerged rocks are also suited to freediving. Diving can be done on the side of the island facing the mainland, among rocks and marine life. The south side, facing the open sea, is considered a great fishing spot for garoupas, sororocas, galos and prejerebas. Around the islands, the islet and the rocky shores of Caraguatatuba, cetacean sightings are frequent.
