Ilha do Costa lies facing the Areias Negras and Remanso beaches in Rio das Ostras, about 500 m from Praia das Areias Negras, from where it can be seen. Covering about 6,000 m², it is shaped like a large rock slab. The island is also a suitable place for fishing.
At Praia do Remanso you can rent kayaks to get to the island. Boat or schooner tours leaving from Praia do Centro last about 1h30 and stop at Ilha do Costa and Ilha dos Coqueiros, and you can dive at both.
