Ilha do Caitá can be reached by kayak from Terceira Praia in Morro de São Paulo, in a paddle of less than 20 minutes, and at the end of the day you can watch the sunset from there. There is a lone coconut palm on the island.
On the way from Terceira Praia to the island there are reef blocks where colorful schools of fish shelter among the coral formations. The sea around the island is rich in marine life, with schools of sardines, octopuses, the fish known locally as peixe-morcego and the one known locally as sargentinho, among many other fish. Rays, moray eels, starfish and sea urchins also turn up and, with luck, turtles. The dive shows a variety of corals and small fish native to the region. In Morro de São Paulo, the most suitable time to dive tends to run from late October to mid-April.
