Ilha de Cotunduba lies about 2 km off the coast, at the entrance to Guanabara Bay, with views of Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer. About 60 m high, the island has rock formations that hold natural saltwater pools, home to a variety of marine species. On the dive you can see pufferfish, moray eels, groupers and other species such as eagle rays. On the seabed, ancient structures have become artificial reefs. In 2019 the island was included in a monitoring project.
