Ilha da Figueira

Ilha da Figueira rises out of the water as a 60 m high peak and, seen from the coast, stands out for its pyramidal profile and very steep slopes, with a maximum width of about 200 m in the northeast direction. It is formed by an almost monolithic ridge of iron-bearing oligomictic metaconglomerate, with quartzite pebbles and a sandy matrix rich in micas, magnetite and hematite. On the north side there is a large grotto.

Around the island, dives are spent watching reef fish, and turtles and rays can be seen swimming by.

Above the water, the island hosts many bird nesting colonies. On expeditions to the island, aggregations of frigatebirds were seen, with males displaying an inflated gular pouch, and, if nesting is confirmed, it will be the third frigatebird breeding site on the São Paulo coast.
