Enseada do Príncipe was one of the Trindade sites included in a 2015 study of mesophotic reefs along the Vitória-Trindade chain. Together with Laje do Príncipe and Praia do Príncipe, the cove is also among the main collection sites of a survey of crabs (Brachyura) in the archipelago. Along the islands' shores, the bottom is made of rocky reefs of exposed basalt dominated by turf algae, with no significant buildup of coralline algae or corals.
The Vermelho stream, which once drained to the northeast, was captured toward Praia do Príncipe, on the south coast, and carved there the deepest canyon on the island. More exposed because it lacks algal reefs and because of its orientation to southwesterly storms, this beach retreated on the order of 15 and 20 m between aerial photos from 1947 and an image from 2013. On Praia do Príncipe, dozens of late green turtle (Chelonia mydas) hatchlings were once seen emerging from the sand and heading to the sea.
