Brazil
Enseada da Cachoeira, on the west side of Trindade Island, has a lush seabed bathed by warm waters, with Ponta dos Cinco Farilhões in the background. In May 2014, divers collected specimens of the snapping shrimp Alpheus peasei in the cove, in the Farrilhões area, including egg-bearing females. The cove is also home to the most abundant of Trindade's three large sources of drinking water, fed by the rain that forms when clouds hit the island's peaks. The discovery of Trindade is disputed: some historians credit João da Nova, in March 1501, and others Estêvão da Gama, in 1502, during Vasco da Gama's second voyage to the Indies. In the region, cold fronts tend to arrive between April and October and can change the sea quickly and drastically, with strong winds and waves that can reach 5 m.
