Brazil
The name Costão do Aquário refers to the abundance of fish, which gather among the rocks. Turtles also appear, and on the sandy bottom you may find raias-manteiga.
On the boat ride to the archipelago it is common to see bottlenose dolphins, Bryde's whales and even humpback whales. Ilha dos Búzios is home to a traditional caiçara community that lives from artisanal fishing and from growing cassava and bananas.
In the region, the water averages around 22 °C over the year and can reach 27 °C from mid-January until the arrival of autumn. Along this coast, thermoclines, bands of very cold water in the water column, can occur in early summer.
