Brazil
Costão de Itaipu is home to many green turtles and guitar fishes. It is a site recommended for night diving, when all the fauna is active and squid and a large number of siris appear. In the coastal area of Itaipu, across the cove, rocky reefs, surf zone and lagoon, 183 fish species have been identified. The Itaipu Marine Extractive Reserve, created by State Decree 44.417 of September 30, 2013, is contiguous to the beaches of Itacoatiara, Itaipu, Camboinhas and Piratininga and protects traditional artisanal fishing. In the region, spring, from September to November, tends to bring clearer skies and good conditions for diving and for visiting the islands.
