At Cabeço da Iaiá, nurse sharks sometimes appear amid a great diversity of corals and reef fish. On night dives, it is common to see lobsters and shrimp out and active. On the Maraú Peninsula, the large coral clusters are known locally as cabeços or chapeirões. Around the peninsula there are brain coral and spiral coral formations and good concentrations of reef fish such as ciliaris, tricolor, donzela and frade. At several spots on the peninsula, large areas of soft corals and sizeable sponges also stand out.
