Brazil
Espera 7 was a double-hulled barge used to carry grain in the port of Antonina. Out of service for four years, it was donated to the RAM Project, cleaned, towed and deliberately sunk empty with explosives to form an artificial reef. The deliberate blast sent the barge down in 1 minute and 57 seconds.
Inside the forward hold, cutouts were made with a torch in the shape of a dive flag and a shark. By 2008, the barge's sides had already collapsed.
Many fish known in Brazil as badejos and garoupas live inside the barge. In the area of the Espera 7 and Dianka barges, passing fish known in Brazil as cavalas, peixes-galo and bicudas are seen, schools of the fish known locally as sardinha are frequent, as are the fish known locally as meros, and many schools of dozens of fish species can be found.
