Maldives
The channel is at the tip of a 'V' on the northeastern edge of Huvadhoo. The north corner drops more steeply to the channel entrance, and the south corner slopes gently down to the middle of the channel, which is roughly 200 m wide.
Divers descend a wall at the mouth of the channel to the observation point, where, hooked in, they watch schools of barracuda and eagle rays drift by. At the end of the drift, keeping the southern reef on the left, it is possible to reach a sandy bottom close to Kooddoo island, where many green turtles and different kinds of rays are found.
December to March is usually the best time to dive the southerly Maldivian atolls, between Huvadhu and Addu. Between January and April, liveaboards often stop in the northeast of Huvadhoo atoll to snorkel with whale sharks.
