Shilaniat is part of a group of reefs 2 km west of Wadi Gemal Island and is 250 m long at its longest. Sheltered from wind and waves by the island and the nearby Dahara reef, it is often used as an overnight mooring. North of the main reef, large rocks form a small coral labyrinth, so it is worth keeping an eye on your compass to avoid losing your way. The seabed is covered with coral rocks and hosts sea slugs and stonefish, among other creatures. Despite its barren landscape, the southern side is good for night dives and hosts a surprising number of small life forms.
