The name Shaab Quais is translated as “good reef” or “the beautiful reef”. Two coral blocks rise from a plateau, and the site is small enough to be explored in full in a single dive. It is rarely dived because it is exposed to the open sea, which is sometimes rough. Trips here usually take place only in very good weather with no high waves.
The reef has very beautiful soft corals, large gorgonians and table corals. Around the coral blocks there are snappers, sweetlips, unicornfish, huge schools of anthias and clouds of glassfish. Along the drop-off into the blue, tuna, Spanish mackerel, barracudas, turtles, sharks and groupers may appear, and the barracudas often come in large schools. Eagle rays, surgeonfish, bannerfish, lionfish and anemonefish also appear.
