Egypt
The large, quiet and safe anchorage makes this corner of Shaab Sheer a popular rest area for safari boats, and at low tide the tips of the coral heads break the surface. The highlight is a tremendous hard coral garden, reached via a sandy lane, and the site is known more for its moon-like coral landscape than for its amount of fish. This eastern part of the Sheer reef system has coral gardens and caves. Leaving the anchorage on the east side, the route follows the main reef and turns north into a coral garden; on the way back, it circles coral blocks (ergs) that rise from the bottom, passing through narrow canyons. The site is also associated with sharks.
