Locals call Marsa Mubarak Turtle Bay because of the giant green turtles that live in the bay. In the region, Marsa Mubarak is considered the best chance in the Red Sea to swim with dugongs, although they are not always in the bay.
The Seagrass meadow is known for its green turtles and feather tail stingrays. Large green turtles graze on the meadow almost every day, nearly always with shark suckers attached to their shell, sometimes three or four. There are few other fish, but bluespotted ribbontail rays are often seen, and the seagrass area also has guitar rays. The meadow sometimes looks empty, but a dive can bring encounters with huge green turtles, honeycomb rays and feathertail rays.
